Health Care Plan
The plan below is 80% based on the GOP Plan along with some common sense additions:
-
Expand "high-risk pools" to extend coverage to people with preexisting conditions.
-
Limit noneconomic damages in malpractice lawsuits to $500,000.
-
Help small businesses band together to buy insurance by reducing regulations.
-
Give incentives to states to reduce the number of uninsured and cut premium costs.
-
Allow insurers to sell their products across state lines. Insurers would have to follow the laws in their home state but not the consumer- protection laws in all states where they sell policies.
-
Give employers more flexibility to offer discounts to workers who meet standards for a healthy lifestyle.
-
Allow young adults to stay on parents' policies through age 25.
-
Allow people to choose whether to buy insurance, and let employers choose whether to offer it.
-
Let former employees have the option to pick up COBRA coverage at any point in the 18 month interval following termination. The government would pick up 50% of the cost so that the former employee can afford it.
-
No health coverage for illegal immigrants except emergency care which would be rationed.
-
Anyone traveling to the US is to buy a special health insurance to cover them while they travel here. European countries now require we do the same when we travel there.
-
Someone who has been determined to only have a limited time to live and is in pain and discomfort or brain dead, should have the option of euthanasia.
-
Create a Master Database with the Health Information of all individuals in the US. Those who refuse are to be refused all insurance and medical benefits.
Some of the parts of the plan may be harsh but they are much much better than what Pelosi, Reid and Obama have in mind. However, we all agree that something has to be done. This is almost like the situation was in IRAQ where everyone knew something had to be done, but could not agree. The surge idea which came from the right, ultimately prevailed. The same here.
